I haven't been out to see "Where the Wild Things Are" yet but for a few weeks I had friends phoning to say they'd seen one of my necklaces on the big screen. Apparently CTV had an Olympic promotional spot at Cineplex and Olympic Medalist Clara Hughes is wearing one of my Flora necklaces in it!

I have to admit I had a little trouble getting the CTV video to work on my Mac but I did manage to get in touch with Clara, wish her luck and hear that she's been a fan of my jewelry for a while.

Good luck in 2010 Clara! We're all rooting for you.

Lindsay Staniforth jewelry is heading to Courtney, BC!

be is a store for Canadian made fashionables and was recently taken over by Erin Dean. They are having a promo evening to coincide with Courtney's annual Moonlight Magic event on November 20th and my jewelry will be there making its debut. I've been dying to get over to Courtney myself and see why it's becoming the new place to put down roots and I think be is the perfect excuse.

One of my new products for the coming Christmas season. I thought I should round out the men's line (well, technically, these are unisex but...). They were a hit at the Vancouver One of a Kind Show so I think I will make a few more this year. I think of them as the equivalent buckle to the basic men's wallet.

You will be able to order them through me for $30 or with a brown belt included for $55. Otherwise, I will have a few for sale at the Granville Island Wood Coop. Wood types TBD but likely more wenge, some kingwood, curly maple and walnut options.

The Vancouver One of a Kind Show has arrived! The show starts up this Thursday and runs through Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. I know things are getting close when I have more to do lists than I can count on one hand ;)

I have a few new pieces to exhibit at the show (Booth B1) including earrings, necklace and belt buckles to name a few. Here's a photo of my new drop earrings to whet your appetite.

The popular One of a Kind Show will hit Vancouver for the second year running. Hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre from October 8 through 11th, this amazing, unique shopping venue will be on hand to get your wheels turning for fall fashion, food items and early Christmas ideas.

I'm excited to be in the same arena as these talented artisans and get a chance to meet many of my local Vancouver customers face-to-face! Come and visit me in booth B1.

It will also be a chance for me to test drive a few new products...but more on that later. Stay tuned!

I met the fabulous owners of Nelson's very unique, Very Hush Hush gallery. Operating seasonally out of a restored 1964 Airstream trailer, their store sells handmade goods by emerging independent Canadian designers and now includes my line of jewelry.

What a perfect concept for a town like Nelson, BC. I lived in Nelson while I took my Fine Woodworking diploma and have been hit with a whiff of nostalgia after checking out their website.

There is some beautiful wood and silver jewelry out there these days. I'm a sucker for the stunning combo and wanted to share some techniques and elements that make my work unique.

All of my jewelry is handmade with unstained wood and sterling silver. The silver (or wood as the case may be) is all inlaid in very thin layers. The intricate inlays in the Flora Line are actually made using a technique called marquetry.

With marquetry, very thin layers of wood (ie. veneer) are cut at the same time to ensure a perfect fit. The layers are then assembled like a puzzle and glued to a substrate. In the case of the flora, one of the "woods" is substituted with a thin layer of silver - thin enough it can act like a piece of veneer. This skin is then glued to the same wood substrate so it seems seamless.

I decided to channel my spring fever and went on a walkabout with my fantastic photographer friend Jeff Bell.

The models did a super job in the spring (not summer) conditions. I hope to have the photos up on the website in the next few weeks. In the mean time here's a preview....

The Portobello West market has set it's sights on Calgary. May 8, 9 and 10th 2009 marks the second year running their diverse fashion and art market at the Big Four building on the Stampede Grounds.

Admission is $5 and is certainly an event you won't want to miss if you're tired of the humdrum of big box shopping.

Our first version of the new Wood Flora Earrings (EFWpw) has arrived. These are made with wenge and have silver pussy willows inlaid. I'm playing around with the attachments but I think these short box threaders look pretty hot.

The final version should be out in a few weeks. Comments?

Spring 2009 is finally on it's way and we can kick off the doom and gloom of this past winter. For starters, the new Silver Flora Earrings are available (by popular demand) to give you a little extra sparkle in your step, soon to be followed by the sexy Wood Flora Earrings I'm unveiling in April.

The Vancouver blossoms are motivating me to look forward and get into the swing of things. If you haven't been recently, head down to Granville Island to get some fresh food at the market. Stop in and check out my jewelry in person at the Wood Co-op's temporary space. They've experienced some collapsed-roof construction woes this past winter but seem to have landed on their feet down at the Net Loft.
